KNOXVILLE (WATE) – The work of building a house for a deserving family got a celebratory kickoff Wednesday night at the Tennessee Theatre.

Hundreds of volunteers for the project packed the theater to welcome the senior producer of ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition and other members of the show’s production crew.

After some weather delays earlier in the week, Saturday’s clear skies in Knoxville helped crews make construction progress on the “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” build site.

Everything has to be finished for the big reveal on Tuesday, January 17, and the team got a boost on Saturday to get back on schedule.

The Housers needed help. Living with family, and a chronically ill child, they desperately needed their own space.

“It goes back to … old-time values, how a community would raise up a child,” said Amanda Houser, referring to the outreach shown her family by the community. “The whole community showed their heart.”
